Democratic Front (DF) Kampala Central Parliamentary aspirant Nakuya Aidah has outlined a community-driven agenda emphasizing grassroots mobilization, environmental stewardship, and empowering residents ahead of the 2026 elections.
She highlighted her experience and deep local roots as key qualifications for addressing the constituency’s challenges.
Speaking during the Kampala Central Parliamentary Debate hosted by NBS Television on Wednesday, Nakuya stressed that the Democratic Front is prioritizing candidates with proven capacity and strong community connections.
“DF is recruiting people who are material and have the capacity to canvass for votes in their area. All the people in Kampala Central know me, my capacity, and what I did as a youth councillor,” she said.
A former youth councillor, Nakuya highlighted her record of community engagement and leadership, positioning herself as a candidate closely attuned to residents’ needs.
She also promised to champion environmental responsibility if elected, pledging to lead campaigns on proper garbage disposal and recycling—key steps, she said, toward improving public health and restoring city cleanliness.
“I will take it upon myself as MP to sensitize the people on garbage disposal and recycling,” she affirmed, noting that sustainable waste management is central to her legislative priorities.
Nakuya will face a competitive field including National Unity Platform (NUP) Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya, Kampala Minister Minsa Kabanda of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), Abdallah Walangalira of the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF), business tycoon Abraham Luzzi, Uganda Boxing Federation President Moses Muhangi, and independent candidate Suzan Kushaba.
They are all seeking to unseat outgoing MP and Ecological Party of Uganda (EPU) President Muhammad Nsereko, who has held the seat since 2011.
With elections just months away, the Kampala Central parliamentary contest is shaping up to be one of the most closely watched races of the 2026 polls.
